Review of Episode 2 How I Met Your Mother Season 8

How I Met Your Mother has never been known to feature fast paced character development. It is understandable that the writers wouldn't reveal the identity of the Mother from the get go but even in other aspects of the story, it does seem How I Met Your Mother is a bit slow. Once you watch How I Met Your Mother Season 8 episode 2, you would think the same  - interesting but no contribution to the actual plot. I was definitely surprised when things turn out otherwise.

Today's episode started with Barney's boss Arthur who after a convincing speech managed to convince Barney to draw up a pre-nup agreement with Quinn. Quinn was obviously taken aback by the pre-nup, especially the extravagance of its content. The rest of the gang were inspired and began doing the same with their partners. Obviously Victoria, Robin and Lily were not amused about their boyfriends controlling them. Out of rage, they helped Quinn draw up her own pre-nup. From hereon, things start to get interesting.

Without a surprise, the main couples got back together, except Barney and Quinn. Looking at the big pile of papers in front of them in the form of prenuptial agreement, they realized they have no trust of each other and went their separate ways. With that, Barney became single again.

The episode then showed as a scene from the future where Barney was telling his boss how awesome his wedding was going to be. His fiance, Robin then showed up and went to lunch with Barney.

That was a solid ending. Things are starting to pick up. Even though we have no idea when the Mother would appear but we are only at the second episode of Season 8 and we've been shown Ted reconciling with Victoria and Robin getting a new boyfriend. It is no doubt that Robin would marry Barney now. If we follow the pace of the past, it would take at least three seasons to reach that stage.
